James Edward ‘Granddad’ Marcott

NORMAN — James Edward “Granddad” Marcott, 79, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2012, in Norman. He was born Nov. 22, 1932, in Purcell to Joseph and Leona (Jones) Marcott.

Services will be 10 a.m. today at the Westside Church of Christ, 726 McGee Drive in Norman, with interment following at Resthaven Memory Gardens in Oklahoma City.

James was united in marriage on Dec. 21, 1951, in Oklahoma City to Yvonnie Jean Johnson.

James served in the Army Active Reserves for six years and was a professional engineer for OG&E, retiring in 1994 after 44 years of service.

James was known for his love and obedience to God and his genuine love of his fellow man. His living example of bearing one another’s burden, his wisdom and gentleness but firm teachings of turning from evil and doing right, will live on in his families’ lives and those lives he touched. James enjoyed reading his Bible, working on cars and gardening. He never missed a sporting or musical event that his children and grandchildren were involved in.

James is survived by his wife of 60 years, Jean Marcott; daughter, Peggy Mitchell and husband John; sons Steve Marcott and wife Nan and Marvin Marcott and wife Nicole; brother, Donald Marcott and wife Mamie; grandchildren James Miller and wife Tracy, Andy Miller, Amanda Thottunkl and husband Vinay, Jacob Marcott, Melinda Marcott, Max Marcott, Molly Marcott, Todd Marcott and Brett Marcott and wife Jiwon; great-granddaughters Jenna Miller and Lindsey Miller; and many other relatives and friends.

Memorial donations may be made to Hope Harbor Children’s Home, P.O. Box 1047, Claremore, OK 74018.
