Ray O. Stuckey

NORMAN — Ray O. Stuckey was born of humble beginnings in Wetumka to Earnest Edgar and Martha Elizabeth (Gibson) Stuckey on April 19, 1924. He passed on Saturday, Oct. 20, 2012, in Naples, Fla, at the age of 88.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at the First Baptist Church of Noble. Burial will follow at Wetumka Oklahoma Cemetery.

On Jan. 16, 1943, Ray married his childhood sweetheart, Dorothy (Bryant) Stuckey, and they walked together through life until her passing in 2005. Ray was dearly loved by all and brought a smile to the face of everyone he met. He was a loving father, an incredible friend, a generous person and a proud Oklahoman. Ray will be dearly missed by his friends and family.

Ray proudly served in WWII in the Pacific Theater in the Army Air Corp 444th Bomb Group 676 Bombardment Squadron as an armorer on B29 aircraft. After the war, Ray received his bachelor’s degree in physics from East Central University and his Master in Education from his beloved University of Oklahoma. A lifelong educator and coach, Ray retired from the Oklahoma School System as a school superintendent in Shidler. He continued to stay in touch with his teachers and students, meeting monthly with the Paoli Hug Pugs, the first students he ever taught.

Retirement didn’t slow Ray down, and his ties to OU remained strong. Since the 1940s, Ray cheered the OU football team. Upon moving to Norman, he added men’s and women’s basketball teams to his season tickets. He and Dorothy loved to travel and loved RVing. He also loved golf and played well into his 80s. A religious man, Ray attended First Baptist Church of Noble and lovingly served the Lord as a deacon and Sunday school teacher.

Ray is survived by his son, Ron Stuckey and wife Carol of Naples, Fla.; daughter, Sheila Stuckey and husband Mitt Tidwell of Daytona Beach, Fla.; grandchildren Jennifer Stuckey and husband Scott Boguslawski of Indiana, Joyce Stuckey and husband Allen Lee of Florida, Russell Tidwell and wife-to-be Millie Richter of Irving and Mittsy Tidwell of San Angelo; and many treasured nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to the First Baptist Church of Noble Building Fund.
