NORMAN — Nicholas Petkoff, 86, departed this life Tuesday, April 30, 2013, in Norman.
Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Saint Marks Catholic Church in Norman, with Father Thomas Boyer officiating and Deacon Byron Jacobson assisting. Burial with military honors will be 3 p.m. at the Resurrection Cemetery in Hobart with Father Jude Shayo providing rights.
Nicholas Petkoff was born to Mike and Mary (Wasilchin) Petkoff south of Hobart on May 12, 1926. Nick grew up in Hobart where he graduated high school and attended junior college.
He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served in Saipan during World War II.
He married Shirley Adams in Hobart on May 27, 1948. He farmed for 17 years, was county commissioner for 17 years and sold Caterpillar heavy equipment for 18 years. He owned a gas station and water ski school at Quartz Mountain for several years.
He was a member of St. Marks Catholic Church in Norman. He enjoyed working in his yard, woodworking, craftwork and golf.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Mike Petkoff Jr. and a sister, Nettie Phelps.
Survivors include his wife Shirley Petkoff of Norman; a daughter, Sheila and husband Ron Cribbs of Norman; two grandchildren, David Cribbs and Jill and husband Craig Roberts; three great grandchildren, Ashley, Anna and Caleb; a brother, Robert Petkoff of Hobart; and many other relatives and friends.

Arrangements are under the direction of People’s Cooperative Funeral Home in Lone Wolf.
