Mary Jane Westmoreland

NORMAN — Mary Jane Westmoreland was born Dec. 21, 1926, to John and Mary (Swanda) Nemecek in Noble. The youngest of nine children, her parents and siblings called her Jane. She attended Rocky Point School and graduated from Noble High School at the young age of 16. Jane worked at Tinker Air Force Base at the end of World War II and then went on to work at OG&E until her marriage to Irvin James Westmoreland.

After starting her family, Mary Jane went to work at Lintone, American General Insurance and Wilson Food’s, where she retired after 14 years. She spent many wonderful years worshiping her God at Nicoma Park Methodist Church, where she and Irvin were members until his passing in 2003.

Often times, you could find Mary Jane listening to her favorite singer, Engelbert Humperdinck, sewing, spending time in her vegetable and flower garden, or cheering for her beloved OU Sooners football team and most recently, the Oklahoma City Thunder. Mary Jane loved to make her “famous” Aunt Bills Brown Candy and Divinity Candy for her family and friends during Christmas.

A memorial service celebrating the life of Mary Jane will be Monday at the Crawford Family Funeral Service chapel, 610 NW 178th St. in Edmond.

Mary Jane leaves behind her daughter, Vicki Kautz and her husband Harvey of Edmond; son, James Westmoreland of Portland, Ore.; as well as one granddaughter, Valeria Kautz of the Village.

She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings and husband, Irvin.
