Hazel Louise Patterson

NORMAN — Hazel Louise Patterson, 79, of Norman, passed away Saturday, Feb. 8, 2014, in Norman. She was born July 20, 1934, in Seminole, to Henry Albert and Viola Lee Bell (McHenry) Welch.

Hazel grew up and attended Velma-Alma High School in Velma. She attended Tulsa University and Northeastern. She earned her Masters in Education from Northeastern State College in Tahlequah. Hazel taught at Haskell and Lindsay High School.

Hazel was very involved with school activities including yearbook, sports and Spanish club. She also helped organize various educational trips to other countries. Hazel enriched and enlightened her students lives through their travel. She retired from Lindsay High School in 1992. For Hazel, retirement did not last long. She got her real estate license in 1992 and went to work for Century 21 in Norman. Hazel retired for the last time in 2005 after a very successful second career.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Sam Patterson. They were married Dec. 24, 1955, in Miami, and they were married 52 years. He was the love of her life. Hazel and Charles enjoyed traveling. They visited all 50 states, plus Canada, Mexico and Puerto Rico. Branson, Mo. was their favorite destination.

Hazel enjoyed bowling and golfing. She and her husband were avid OU fans. They had season tickets since 1980. Hazel was a very fun loving person. She never met a stranger. She will really be missed.

She supported an organization dear to her heart, Oklahoma Children’s Cancer Association. Hazel knew first-hand the great work this all-volunteer based group provides. Memorials may be made in memory of Hazel to (OCCA) 501 (C) 3, Oklahoma Children’s Cancer Association, P.O. Box 96292, Oklahoma City, OK 73143.
