William E. ‘Bill’ Lewis Sr.

NORMAN — William E. “Bill” Lewis Sr. went peacefully to be with the Lord on Monday, Dec. 16, 2013, in Norman, after a brief illness. Bill was born in Sayre on Oct. 4, 1922.

He graduated from Sayre High School where he met his wife, Johnnie Daphne Lewis, with whom he recently celebrated 65 years of marriage.

He was a proud World War II veteran, having served in the Army Air Corps in the South Pacific. Immediately following his military service, he worked as an aircraft mechanic in Tulsa and then subsequently spent his entire remaining professional career as an Air Force logistics officer at Tinker Air Force Base.

He was an avid OU fan and a constant positive influence to all who knew him.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Sol and Hilda Lewis, and his sister, Francis Smith.

He is survived by his wife, Daphne Lewis; son, Bill E. Lewis Jr. of Oklahoma City; daughter, Julie Rankin and husband Stan of Edmond; brother, John S. Lewis and wife Jean of Oklahoma City; granddaughter, Libby Gober and husband Aaron of Oklahoma City; grandson, Mitch Rankin and wife Merrick of Edmond; and great-grandson Everett Rankin.

Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Thursday at First Presbyterian Church in Norman.

Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church of Norman.

Condolences may be shared at Havenbrook-FuneralHome.com.

Services are under the direction of Havenbrook Funeral Home in Norman.
