Brenda Joyce Nelson

NORMAN — Brenda Joyce Nelson, 67, of Norman, passed away Monday, Dec. 16, 2013, at her home. Brenda was born Jan. 17, 1946, in Ada, one of four children born to John Lawson Nelson and Ethel Mae (Teel) Nelson.

The family moved around a bit while she was young; as like most families, they followed work. Eventually, they settled in Purcell, where Brenda graduated from Purcell High School in 1966.

Brenda began working for the state of Oklahoma at the Griffin Memorial Hospital. She was a selfless person who gave so much of herself to the people she cared for. Brenda spent more than 29 years working at Griffin, retiring as a mental health aide in 1996.

Brenda loved animals. She enjoyed feeding the birds and never missed an opportunity to walk her dog. She had a green thumb, and she enjoyed flowers and could always bring the best of them. She was a wonderful sister who looked after her little family, and she will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Ethel Nelson, and her sister, Linda Kay Nelson.

Brenda leaves behind her sister, Carol J. Nelson of Norman; her brother, John Nelson of Norman; several cousins, aunts and uncles; and a host of other family and friends.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday at the Wilson-Little Funeral Home chapel in Purcell. Burial will follow at the Hillside Cemetery.

Arrangements are by Wilson-Little in Purcell. Leave online condolences at wilsonlittle.com.
