NORMAN — Joan Belden Jones, 83, of Charlotte, N.C., daughter, of Carl and Josie Belden, passed away Saturday morning, Dec. 14, 2013, peacefully in her sleep.

Joan was born in Norman on Feb. 11, 1930. She graduated from Norman High School and attended Oklahoma State University. Joan married Torrence Milton Jones in 1955; they had two sons and later divorced. Joan was a past member of the Mouzon Methodist Church and Carmel Country Club.

Joan was a well-respected financial secretary employed by such organizations as Mouzon Methodist Church, Hoechst-Celanese, and for the last 15 years of her career, the City of Charlotte, retiring from the Charlotte Douglas International Airport in 1997.

Joan was a creative poet, an avid reader, a lover of music with the gift of song and an animal rights activist who played a mean hand of bridge. Later in life, Joan had the companionship of her beloved dogs, Teak and Babe; she enjoyed a good crossword puzzle; doing her crafts and watching her “afternoon stories.”

She is survived by her children, Michael and Milton; their wives, Lori and Karen; her grandchildren, Jennifer and Alexis; and nephew, Burt McCurly and his wife and children.

Joan was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Josie Belden, and her sister, Clair Belden McCurly.

There will be an inurnment service at Sharon Memorial Cemetery in Charlotte, N.C. at a later time.

Donations will be accepted in Joan’s name to the Humane Society.
