NORMAN — J. B. Tadlock, 90, of Norman, died Tuesday, Dec. 24, 2013, in Norman, from heart failure. J. B. was born July 24, 1923, in Bokchito, the son of Bennett and Alzada Tadlock.
In 1940, he joined the CCC, working in Wyoming. During World War II, he served as an Army medical tech in Kansas and Colorado. He married Jeanette Iris Kolterman on March 2, 1945, in Topeka, Kan. They were married for 61 years until her death in 2006.
When first married, he helped his parents operate the Yellow Moon Cafe in Norman. He then went to work at the veterans administration in Topeka, Kan., helping give insulin and electric shock treatments.
In 1951, he moved his family to Jeanette’s family farm in Onaga, Kan., being the fourth generation to help farm this homestead. Her family was founding members of that community.
While farming, he also was a steel worker for the Union Pacific Railroad. In 1961, he moved to Norman to operate Tadlock Grocery Store No. 2 on Robinson Street. After selling the grocery store, he joined the carpenter’s union, working for various commercial companies building schools, churches, retirement centers and hospitals. J. B. retired in 1985.
After retiring, he was an avid vegetable gardener, including fruit and pecan trees. He hunted and fished much of his life. In recent years, he loved to go turkey and deer spotting. He loved his family, enjoyed family reunions and working with his daughter, Janice, on genealogy. His favorite pastime was watching TV, especially the OU Sooners.
He is survived by four children, Janice Tadlock Papandrea and husband John Papandrea of Harrisburg, Pa., Wayne Tadlock of Norman, Jerry Tadlock and wife Julie Tadlock of Oklahoma City and Jay Don Tadlock and wife Jill Tadlock of Norman; 15 grandchildren, Nicole Michael and husband Kevin of Yukon, Tim Tadlock and wife Tracy of Yukon, Jill Papandrea Baglanis and husband John of Fallston, Md., Annie Tadlock Albin and husband Matt of Moore, Jerry Tadlock Jr. and his wife Crystal of Moore, Jessica Tadlock Potter and her husband Brian of Oklahoma City and Stacey, Shannon and Jayson Tadlock of Norman; 11 great-grandchildren, Peyton and Cristian Tadlock, McKayla and Cade Michael, all of Yukon, Emma and Dade Albin, Jaxson and Harper Tadlock, all of Moore, Jadyn Potter of Oklahoma City and twins Alexander and Ella Baglanis of Fallston, Md.; and sister, Francile Tadlock DeBerry.
