Keith Lowell Merckx Sr.

NORMAN — Keith Lowell Merckx Sr., 80, of Norman, passed away at his home Sunday, Dec. 22, 2013.

He was born Dec. 27, 1932, in Wiota, Wis., and was raised in Chicago. After serving in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War, Mr. Merckx became an investment banker. In 1978, he moved his family to Little Rock, Ark., to join Stephens Inc., a company he truly loved and worked for until his retirement.

During frequent visits to Norman and tailgating at OU football games, Mr. Merckx became quite fond of Norman and always commented on the overwhelming kindness of its residents. He decided to make his home there, to be close to his son’s family.

Mr. Merckx is survived by his three children, son, Keith and his wife Barbara of Norman; daughter Kim and husband Randy Allen of Greenwood, Ark.; and daughter Kristie and her husband Kevin Collins of Pittsburg, Texas. He is also survived by “honorary son,” Jonathan Jeter; along with grandchildren, Jenna, Jason, Emily, Gentry and Brooke; and four great-grandchildren.

A brief memorial service and family visitation will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Savannah House II Apartments Community Room, 2500 Meadowbrook.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the WildCare Foundation, 7601 84th Street, Noble, OK 73068, or online at wildcareoklahoma.org.
