NORMAN — Richard Ralph Gamel, 90, of Norman, passed away Thursday, Dec. 26, 2013. Richard was born Sept. 6, 1923, in Krum, Texas, to Carl and Myrtle (Markum) Gamel.
He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from 1942-1953 in World War II and the Korean War. Richard worked as an engineer for the Federal Aviation Administration until retirement. He also was a cattle rancher and owned Eastoak Oil Company.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Winifred Lee Gamel, Marvin Eugene Gamel and William Carl Gamel; sister, Rosemary (Gamel) Johnson; and his first wife, Betty Jean Gamel.
Richard is survived by and will be greatly missed by his wife of six years, Connie Gamel; nephews Thomas Gamel, Grant Gamel and John Johnson; and nieces Gay Gamel, Mary Lou Foster and Kelly Johnson Drummond.
Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. Monday at Havenbrook Funeral Home, 3401 Havenbrook St. in Norman.
Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 235 W. Duffy St. in Norman, with interment following at Resthaven Memorial Gardens, 500 SW 104th St. in Oklahoma City.

Arrangements for Ralph and his family were placed in the care of the Vice family at Havenbrook Funeral Home in Norman.
