NORMAN — On Friday, Dec. 20, 2013, Sherri “Sher” Lynn Merrell left her earthly body and entered into heaven to sing with the angels. She was born Jan. 26, 1956, in San Antonio, but lived most of her life in Norman.
She attended Norman schools, Blackwood Business College, the University of Oklahoma and studied facilities management at MIT in Cambridge, Mass. She was employed at OU in the engineering department, and more recently volunteered at Norman Regional Hospital and as a literacy tutor with the Norman Public Library.
Her greatest passions were her grandchildren, her love of singing, music, learning to play guitar and the choir at St. John’s Episcopal Church, where she was introduced to bell choir.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Kyle and Kristie Guttery; her grandchildren, Wyatt, Shelby and Jake; mother and father, Vivian and Bill Benge; sister and husband, Debbie and Mark Schwartz and their son, Jonathan; brother, Michael Merrell of Fredericksburg, Va.; and her aunts, uncles and numerous cousins.
The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to the congregation at St. John’s Church and her friend there who gave her support and encouragement.
A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Monday at St. John’s Episcopal Church at 235 W. Duffy.
