NORMAN — Joseph Brownell Shead, the last of five sons of the late Dr. William L. Shead and the late Connie Shead, expired on Sunday, Nov. 3, 2013, in Austin, Texas. The funeral, followed by interment, was hosted Dec. 3 in Austin.

Joe was born Feb. 14, 1962, in Norman. He attended John Adams school and graduated from Norman High School in May 1980. Thereafter, Joe majored in both physics and mathematics at Maharishi International University in Fairfield, Iowa. He was respected as one of MIU’s best students in the aforementioned fields.

In early 1987, Joe left MIU and returned to Norman, where he entered Moore-Norman Vo-Tech Center and completed the program in computer technology. However, in 1991, Joe matriculated at the University of Oklahoma and graduated with Phi Beta Kappa distinction in anthropology in May 1994. The following summer, he moved to Dallas and worked as a guard at the Dallas Museum of Art. But about 10 years later, Joe was residing in Austin, where he was self-employed as a computer troubleshooter until his demise.

Joseph is survived by his brothers Pat and Bill Shead of Norman, Jim Shead and wife Grace of Fairfield, Iowa, and Mike Shead and wife Mary Ann of Tucson, Ariz.
