NORMAN — Kenneth “Ken” Raymond Haws, age 87, passed away peacefully at home Sunday, Jan. 12, 2014. He was born Jan. 31, 1926, in Kingfisher to Floyd Vernon and Mary Francis Haws.

Ken was raised in the Kingfisher area. He proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II. After returning from the war, he began a career in carpentry. He became a construction superintendent, developing commercial sites such as Long John Silver’s, Love stores, nursing homes, apartment complexes in Oklahoma City and many single-family homes.

Ken was a hard worker, but his family was his first priority. He loved spending time with them, and you could find him in the middle of any game that was being played. He was also known for getting in pranks whenever he could. Ken was an avid reader. There was always a book within reach wherever he was, sneaking away at times to a book store and reading for hours. He enjoyed going to OU football games and watching sports on TV.

He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Norma Lea.

Ken is survived by two sons, Lawrence Haws of Goldsby and Jonathan Haws and wife Denise of Washington state; six daughters, Jackquelyn Veith and husband Gene Edward of Virginia, Cynthia Haws of Tulsa, Shirley Trent and husband Bobby of Oklahoma City, Karen Swopes and husband Donald of Moore, Madge Hutton and husband Gary of Oklahoma City and Becky Pruett and husband Kim of Norman; two brothers, Norman Haws of Tulsa and Jerry Haws and wife Billie of Kentucky; sister, Carol Schick of Oklahoma City; sister-in-law, Mildred Logan and husband; brother-in-law, Bobby Smith and wife Dora of Cleveland; 13 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews and other close friends.

Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Havenbrook Funeral Home, 3401 Havenbrook St. in Norman.

Arrangements for Ken and his family were placed in the care of the Vice family at Havenbrook Funeral Home in Norman.
