NORMAN — Gladys Faye (Owens) Blair was born May 9, 1923, to Frank and Lucy (Bogard) Owens in Beebe, Ark. She departed this life Sunday, March 2, 2014, at her daughters home in Wynnewood at the age of 90.
Mrs. Blair attended school at Ladd. After Pearl Harbor, Mrs. Blair moved to Hawaii and began working for the Civil Service as a welder. Upon returning to the United States, she and Mr. Roy C. Blair Sr. were united in marriage Sept. 1, 1946. She attended beauty school and became a beautician in the 1960s. Later, she became employed with Tinker Air Force Base as an inspector until her retirement in the early ’90s. The job she enjoyed the most was volunteering at the Norman Regional Hospital in the Nu-N-Nuf Shop.
Mrs. Blair enjoyed crocheting and working in her flower garden, but most of all, her family was the most important part of her life.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Roy in 1960; her son, Roy C. Blair Jr.; three brothers, W.C., John and James Owens; four sisters, Estelle Davis, Naomi Unger, Minnie Cavens and Willie Mae Clark.
Those who survive her include one daughter, Nancy Eldred of Wynnewood; one son, Greg Blair (Doris) of Noble; two sisters, Wanda Reid of Norman and Betty Webb of Midwest City; daughter-in-law, Shirley Blair of Noble; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be 3 p.m. today at McMahans Funeral chapel. Interment will be at Fairview Maguire Cemetery in Noble.
