NORMAN — Robert Allan Burns, 66, of Little Axe, passed away Friday, March 28, 2014, in Little Axe.
He was born Jan. 25, 1948, to Robert Lee and Leona Mae (Ward) Burns in Oklahoma City. Robert grew up in Oklahoma City, living in the Little Axe area. Robert attended and graduated in 1966 from S.E. High School. He graduated from Rose State College, earning his associate’s degree in art.
Robert was proud of his military service. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, serving three tours as a tunnel rat.
He started working as an aircraft load master at Tinker Air Force Base, later doing artwork, airbrushing, welding and metal sculpturing, which included military themes, and retired from Tinker.
Robert enjoyed the great outdoors and loved hunting, fishing and being around animals. He loved being an artist and a writer.
He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Lee Burns; daughter, April Lea Burns-Jones; and son, Darren Robert Burns.
Robert is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law Sherri Hernandez and Nick of Oklahoma City, Wendi Parsons and Phillip of Yukon, Shawna Ward-Seelbach of Weatherford, Cheyenne Kugler of Little Axe and Andrea Burks and Jason of Little Axe; 10 grandchildren, Joey, Rylee, Haylee, Brittnie, Gage, Denton, Kilian, Ethan, Michael and Austyn; mother, Leona Mae Burns; sisters and brother-in-law Donna Ptak and Betty Krivoniak and Warren; brother and sister-in-law, Tommy Burns and Jeanetta; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Wednesday and continue until time of service. Family gathering to meet with friends will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Cooper Funeral Home. Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Dale Cemetery, with the Rev. Chad Brodrick, Tecumseh First Assembly of God, officiating under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home in Tecumseh.
