Olga Oleta Farley

NORMAN — Olga Oleta Farley, our beautiful and sweet-hearted mother, passed away Saturday, March 29, 2014. She was born May 11, 1922, to James Erskine and Florence Pendergrass in Tipton.

Olga was the light of her children’s lives and, although it sounds cliché, she was truly the “wind beneath their wings.” Olga was everything a Mom should be — she was smart and funny and had a strong will to live life to the fullest.

All these traits were instilled in her as a part of the Pendergrass family, who were pioneers that settled southwest Oklahoma and who survived the Depression and the war to help build this great state, family by family.

She was the second youngest of two boys and five girls who stood together against all odds. The five sisters, especially, had a strong bond, which lives now through the lone remaining sister, Nellie.

Olga met the love of her life, Joe Bob Farley, when she was 11 years old and they were married July 12, 1941. Together, for the next 55 years, they worked side-by-side at the service station, auto parts store and on the farm to raise their big, rowdy, loving family of five. They always said their greatest accomplishment in life was to see all five of their children graduate from the University of Oklahoma.

It’s a true mark of a great life that when you pass, it is only the body that goes. Olga’s spirit lives on in each of her five children.

Olga was preceded in death by her parents, James Erskine and Florence Pendergrass; her two brothers, Elzie and Frankie Pendergrass; her three sisters, Beatrice Huff, Freda Futrell and Jean Westbrook; and her loving husband, Joe Bob Farley.

She is survived by her sister, Nellie Futrell of Norman; her children Jerry Bob and Susan Farley of Topeka, Kan., Jackie Leroy and Linda Farley of Oklahoma City, Jackie Farley of Norman, Joe Ray of Edmond, Janet Kay and Justin Jackson of Edmond and Susan Arn, her daughter by choice; her grandchildren Bre and Kevin Cynova of Oklahoma City and James Brett and Julie Farley of Mustang; two great-grandchildren, Cassandra Cynova and Carter Farley; and numerous nieces and nephews and friends.
