NORMAN — Richard Dee Cordell was born May 17, 1963, at Blytheville Air Force Base in Blytheville Ark. lost his fight with ALS Friday, Nov. 8, 2013. After being diagnosed in 2009, Richard was determined to fight the disease, but after several years, he lost his battle due to complications associated with his illness.
Richard was the son of Howard D. and Alecia N. Cordell. He had an exciting life growing up as a military child and later joined the U.S. Air Force, first in special operations forces and ultimately closing his military career as a law enforcement specialist.
His love for motocross with his two brothers, Kris and Eric, was the love of his young life. After his career in the military he worked as a graphic artist until his disease eventually eliminated his abilities. His greatest love was his daughter Zoe who provided inspiration to fight his battle with his disease.
Richard was preceded in death by his father, Howard D. Cordell; grandparents, Mary and Ted Cordell and Joe and Hazel Shobert.
Survivors include his daughter, Zoe; mother, Alecia N. Cordell; two brothers, Kris and wife Marta and Eric and his wife Kristine; and nephews Jackson and Joe; aunt and uncle Larry and Judy Hames; aunt Diane Scott and his cousin Kevin Frank, aunt Teddy A Boler and cousins Bryan and Janabeth, and aunt Clara Shobert and cousins Teddy, Angela and Cindy.
The family held a private service for family and caregivers Wednesday, Nov. 13, in Plano, Texas.
