NORMAN — Charles Lynch “Charlie” Coleman, 83, of Norman, passed away Sunday, Sept. 29, 2013. He was born July 12, 1930, in Wichita Falls, Texas, to Thomas Lynch Coleman and Frances Laura (Jones) Coleman. He married Elizabeth Ann Coleman on Nov. 27, 1952.

He graduated from Norman High School in 1948. Charlie lettered in track, basketball and football, winning the state championship in track for the 440-yard dash. Charlie attended the University of Oklahoma from 1948-1952 and served in the Army as a combat engineer in a South Korea division. After being discharged from the Army, Charlie re-entered OU and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in finance. He also obtained one year toward a master’s degree.

While at OU, he was selected along with 24 other students as Big Man on Campus. Charlie was a member of the track team at OU for three years and won the Big Seven in the 440-yard dash. In 1950, he set a new record at Michigan State in the 600-yard indoor run. He also set a new record at the Kansas Relays as part of a spring medley relay. Charlie spent the majority of his life in real estate and real estate development.

The three greatest loves of his life were his family, his friends and his country. He frequently said he was the most happily married man he ever knew. All who knew his wife, Annie, could easily understand why.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Ann; and eldest daughter, Stephanie, who is survived by her son, Ashur.

Charlie is survived by his daughter, Lisa Schlueter (Brach) along with their children Ryan and Annie; daughter, Laura Matheson (Alan) along with their children Colton, Sarah and Carter; and daughter, Lynda Coleman and her two daughters, Harper and Chloe.

Visitation will be from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Friday at Havenbrook Funeral Home.

Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Sunset Memorial Park in Norman.

Arrangements for Charles and his family were placed in the care of the Vice family at Havenbrook Funeral Home in Norman.
