NORMAN — Billy P. Nixon was born in 1930 in Canton, Texas, to Sheriff W.P. Nixon and wife Irene. Bill graduated from Canton High School, then attended Tyler Junior College and Texas A&M, graduating with a degree in petroleum engineering.
Bill married Mary Johnson in 1954. He served in the Army until 1956 and then went to work for Lone Star Producing Co. After several years they moved to Oklahoma, where Bill worked for Transworld Drilling Co., a subsidiary of Kerr-McGee Corporation, from 1966 until his retirement.
He was sent on assignments all over the world, including the Canary Islands, United Arab Emirates, Nigeria, Iran, Trinidad, Venezuela, Brazil, Indonesia. He also had extended stays in Burma and Scotland. He greatly enjoyed seeing so much of the world.
Bill and Mary had two daughters, Susan and Dana. He was a loving husband and father. Bill also enjoyed playing golf, playing bridge and taking long walks with his dog. He received Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord later in his life and was a member of Brookhaven Baptist Church.
Bill spent the last 3 years at Arbor House Reminisce Center, where he was loved and cared for by many.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Nixon; his parents, W.P. and Irene Nixon; his brother, Angus Nixon; and his sisters, Louise Robinette and Christine Lane.
Bill is survived by his daughters, Susan Taylor and her husband Doug; Dana Moffer and her husband Tvlwv; and one grandson, Austin Taylor, all of Norman.
