M.J. Jordan

NORMAN — M.J. “Sonny” Jordan passed away on Saturday morning while surrounded by his family. Sonny was born in Norman on Nov. 7, 1936, and raised proudly in his hometown of Noble by his parents, J.E. and Gladys Jordan.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife Carol Teel Jordan, with whom he celebrated 58 years of marriage in July. He is also survived by his three children, Jay Jordan & wife Denise; Jeff Jordan & wife Marie; and Jan Pinard & her husband John; his 11 grand children: Jonathan & Lauren Jordan, Blake & Elizabeth Pinard, Blaine & Amanda Pinard, Cole & Kelsey Williams, Elizabeth Jordan, Josh & Amber Jordan, Kathleen Jordan, Jeffrey Jordan, Jaxson Pinard, & 2 great grandchildren Nash Jordan & Jonah Pinard.

Sonny lived a fulfilling life and his positive personality will be dearly missed. He most loved his family, to whom he was a wonderful husband, father and Poppy.

Sonny was also very active in supporting youth causes by serving in multiple leadership roles through the Optimist organization, beginning with president of the South OKC chapter, followed by governor of the Oklahoma district and finally devoting himself as vice president of Optimist International. In this work, Sonny was among the founding members who established the South OKC Optimist ballpark, Davis Park.

Sonny held a committed belief in his savior Jesus Christ and was an active member of St. Andrew’s United Methodist Church in OKC. Visitation hours will be held on Monday, Oct. 14 from 4 to 8 p.m., with family to greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. at Vondel L. Smith & Sons Mortuary at South Lakes, 4000 S.W. 119th Street in Oklahoma City. A funeral service will be held at St. Andrew’s UMC, 2727 SW 119th St, Oklahoma City on Tuesday at 2 p.m. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memory Gardens in OKC.
