NORMAN — Lynn Theo Tompkins, 67, of Purcell, passed away Tuesday, April 8, 2014, in Oklahoma City. Lynn was born Oct. 7, 1946, in Purcell and was the fifth child of six children born to Joe H. Tompkins and Blanche E. (Bratcher) Tompkins.
He grew up in Purcell and attended Purcell schools. One of his first jobs was working in construction before going to work at Tinker Air Force Base in 1968. After working many years at Tinker, he retired as a warehouse inspector. After retirement, he had to stay busy; he had several jobs doing various types of work. He sold and installed kitchen cabinets, owned and operated the Purcell Bowling Alley for several years, was a car salesman for Tompkins Motors in Pauls Valley and, lastly, he was a salesman for Steelco and BBM.
Lynn grew up going to the Baptist church and was presently a member at Purcell First Baptist Church. Being a Purcell resident most all of his life, Lynn was instrumental in starting the Purcell Girls Softball Association. When his daughter was growing up, he coached her softball team and, later, he helped coach his niece’s team. Throughout his life, he loved being around horses, fishing and gardening. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Blanche Tompkins; and three sisters, Wanda Laverne Tompkins, Gloria Marie Tompkins and Shirley Elaine Richardson
He is survived by his wife, Norma of the home in Purcell; daughter, Staci Tomlinson and husband Kris of Norman; three grandchildren, Zoe and Deuce Trenary and Morgan Reynolds; brother, Joe Dale Tompkins and wife Tracy of Purcell; sister, Bonnie Seabourn and husband Bert of Warr Acres; two sisters-in-law, Mary Lee Gill and husband Bobby of Norman and Linda Kay Varner of Norman; two aunts, Reta Dowdy of Purcell and Pearl Mattis of Oklahoma City; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of other relatives and friends.
