NORMAN — Lora M. Dodd, life-long resident of Norman, passed away peacefully Monday, April 14, 2014, at Norman Regional Hospital at the age of 91. She was born Oct. 7, 1922, the first of six children born to Harry L. McFarland and Emma (Brown) McFarland.

Lora and R.D. “Dee” Dodd were married July 17, 1940, and celebrated 67 years of marriage before his death in 2008. During World War II, Lora worked at Douglas Aircraft, now Tinker Air Force Base, installing electrical wiring in planes being built for the war. After working various jobs as a young adult, she went to work at Southwestern Bell Telephone Company, retiring in 1985 after 33 years of service.

She was a wonderful cook and seamstress and especially enjoyed making wedding dresses for many family members and friends. She was devoted to her family, immediate and extended, and was always ready to do whatever she thought would make life better for each of them. She had a very tender heart toward anyone underprivileged. She would gather neighbor children, buy them clothes and shoes and take them to Sunday school. She sponsored many children in third world countries through various charity organizations. Lora was a devout Christian and faithful member of the Norman Community Church of the Nazarene, where — for many years — she taught youth and children in Sunday school and also served in numerous other capacities.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dee; her parents; and her five siblings, Hubert McFarland, Emma Lou Moss, Jane Furnas, Wanda Garland and Jack McFarland.

She is survived by her two daughters, Diane Randolph and husband Rhett of Edmond and Gayle Jennings of Norman; four grandsons, Keith Randolph and wife Amber, Kelly Randolph and wife Jamie, Greg Randolph and wife Gerri and Jeremy Jennings and wife Jill; one granddaughter, Melissa Jennings; 12 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation for Lora will be from noon to 8 p.m. Friday at Havenbrook Funeral Home in Norman.

Family and friends will celebrate Lora’s life and heavenly home-going at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Havenbrook Funeral Home chapel, 3401 Havenbrook St. in Norman, with interment following at IOOF Cemetery in Norman.

Arrangements for Lora and her family were placed in the care of the Vice family at Havenbrook Funeral Home in Norman. Online condolences may be shared at
