NORMAN — M. Virginia Hill, age 88, formerly of Norman, passed away Monday, June 24, 2013. She was born April 24, 1925, in Daytona, Fla., to Daniel and Vera Gunter.
Virginia enjoyed and taught painting. She was a Worthy Matron of the Eastern Star. Virginia was a Cub Scout leader, Girl Scout leader and a Regional Girl Scout leader. She was a member of the UMW and established it at Franklin United Methodist Church.
Virginia volunteered for the Oklahoma County Court Clerk’s office. She also volunteered for political campaigns for the Republican Party. She was a painter, artist, seamstress and floral designer. Most importantly, she was an awesome mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her first love was spending time with her family.
Virginia is survived by six children, Terry Jones of Bacliff, Texas, Patricia Presley and husband Tom Clements of Oden, Ark., Kathy Shaw and husband Mike of Blanchard, Gil Jones and wife Alice of Newalla, Freida Areheart and husband Randal of Lexington, S.C., and Lucretia Owens and husband Roy Jr. of Magnolia, Texas; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one sister, Rose Ella Feagin of Atlanta, Ga.; and a host of other loving family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, David; two grandchildren, Jason and Lisa Hancock; and her brother, Daniel Gunter Jr.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m., Thursday at Franklin United Methodist Church, 7311 E. Franklin Road in Norman. Interment will follow at Blackburn Cemetery in Norman.
Services are under the direction of the John M. Ireland Funeral Home and Chapel in Moore.
