Mary Katherine ‘Mary Kaye’ Vasseur

NORMAN — Mary Katherine (Mary Kaye) Vasseur, 84, passed away Friday, June 21, 2013, in Norman after a lengthy illness. She was born Dec. 24, 1928, in Edmond to J. Lloyd Whisler and Mildred (Weinkauf) Whisler.

Mary Kaye was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Carl Brewington; and her second husband, Frank Vasseur. Also preceding her in death were her children Jeff Brewington and Jane Brewington Kay.

She is survived by daughter, Carla Brewington of California; sister, Joan Paulos and husband Vic of Arkansas; niece, Andra Beehler of Tennessee; and nephews Craig Paulos and Clay Paulos, both of New Mexico.

Mary Kaye pursued studies at Coty College in Missouri and Central State College in Edmond. She worked in real estate, enjoyed traveling and collecting Southwestern art. She was an artist, a seamstress, an avid bridge player, competitive square dancer and a loyal friend to many. She was actively involved in the Norman community, including Meals on Wheels, for many years. She will be missed by many.

Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the Norman IOOF Cemetery in Norman. Memorial contributions may be made in her honor to your favorite charity or American Lung Association, 1301 Pennsylvania Ave. NW, Suite 800, Washington D.C. 20004 or
