James A. Dewees

NORMAN — James A. Dewees, 57, of Norman, was born in Ardmore to the late Everett J. Dewees and Marjorie Helen Monsey on Aug. 16, 1956. His father was a pilot in the U.S. Air Force and the family moved several times. They lived in Ardmore, Tecumseh, the Philippines, Savannah, Ga. and Tacoma, Wash. Jim attended Curtis High School in Tacoma, Wash.

Jim passed away peacefully in his sleep on Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2013, after a short battle with cancer.

Left behind are his siblings, Mark Dewees, Janet and Jerry Giffin and John Dewees, of Norman. His absence is deeply felt by his four children, Charles Dewees, Matthew Dewees, Angela Dewees, Andrew and Samantha Dewees and two grandchildren, Everett Wilson Dewees and Scottlyn Rose Dewees.

Jim was employed in oil field sales and loved his job and the industry.

He rarely missed an OU football game. He was an avid reader and was often seen with a book in his hand. Summer vacations to the Colorado mountains were a joy in his life. Jim loved astronomy, music and playing with his grandchildren.

Jim was always competitive at recreational sports, an excellent billiards player, a sharp dart thrower, talented horseshoe thrower, and the reigning Annual Family Bocce Tournament champion. He held many trophies earned over the years.

Memorial donations may be made to the James Dewees Benefit Fund Trust at any First Fidelity Bank or the donations can be received at Spicer and Sandburg Inc. where he worked for many dedicated years.

A private memorial service was held in Jim’s honor in Norman on Sept. 13, 2013, for his family and friends.
