Orvil Kenneth Whitford

NORMAN — Orvil Kenneth Whitford, 82, of Norman, was born June 10, 1931, to Isaac Whitford and Artie (Brightwell) Whitford in Blanchard. He died Monday, Sept. 30, 2013, at his home in Norman after a long struggle with COPD.

Kenneth served in the U. S. Army Constabulary Force and was an aviation ordinanceman in the U.S. Navy. After his military service, he worked many jobs in many locations including Ft. Sill, Kaiser Aluminum in California, Firestone in Marion, Ill., and Chickasha.

When Sooner Mall opened in Norman, he began working in maintenance. After several years, he went to work at Engine Warehouse in Oklahoma City and then Norman, where he stayed until he retired in 2001. After retirement, he enjoyed traveling the country with Beatrice as long as his health permitted.

Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers, Raymond, Vernon, Donald Whitford and Ernest Moore.

He is survived by his wife, Beatrice of the home; stepdaughter, Sandy and husband Kelly Wilson of Prospect, Ky., and their children, Robert Wilson and James Wilson; and family along with many other nieces and nephews.

He is also survived by children of the heart, his best buddy, Ron Rollins; his angel, Sheila Rollins; his favorite cook, Katherine Cooley; and grandkids of the heart, Jordan and Courtney Henderson and Brandon Prock.

The family wishes to express a special thank you to Dr. Jonathan Bryan, Good Shepherd Hospice and Home Express Home Health Care.

The family has suggested that memorial contributions can be made in Kenneth’s name to the American Lung Association or a charity of choice.

Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Goodrich Memorial United Methodist Church, with burial at Sunset Memorial Park. Pastor Jordan Henderson will be officiating the services.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Primrose Funeral Service.

Services for Mr. Whitford have been entrusted to the care of Primrose Funeral Service. Visit primrosefuneralservice.com for online condolences.
