She was born Feb. 6, 1925, to Mike and Euna Osborn in Newalla, and attended schools in the area most of her primary years and graduated from Norman High School.
She had two brothers, Alvin and Gerald Osborn and many aunts, uncles, and cousins, and friends with whom she remained close throughout her life. She married her adored husband, Troy G. Cummings, on July 3, 1964, where she, along with her two daughters and their children from her first marriage to James Marti, formed a profound family bond for 44 years.
Dorothy was defined by her family and her family defined by her. It was what she loved most about life. She was a simple farm girl whose appreciation of the basic things in life brought her the greatest joy. She enjoyed time with her first family, extended family, and friends throughout her life and derived great joy in their accomplishments.
She was employed at the University of Oklahoma and later retired from Civil Service at Tinker Air Force Base as an administrative clerk. She was an accomplished seamstress. She enjoyed making ceramics, music, traveling, nature, and her church family at Alameda Baptist Church for many years where she and Troy were charter members.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Troy; daughter, Sharon Graham; brothers, Alvin and Gerald Osborn; nephews, James and Michael Osborn; and grandson, Douglas Ray Smith.
Survivors include her daughter, Jimmie Lou Shepherd and husband Will of St. Augustine, Fla.; grandsons, Steven Smith of Albuquerque, N.M., and James Jason Bagby of Norman; great-grandchildren, Caitlin Smith and Stuart Smith; and grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins from her immediate and extended families.
