NORMAN — James Dean Sterling, 80, died peacefully Saturday, March 23, 2013, at the Norman Veterans Center. He was born Sept. 5, 1932, in Oklahoma City to James Hubert Sterling and Lottie Z. (McCalip) Sterling.
Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Primrose chapel, with interment to follow at Sunset Memorial Park in Norman.
James graduated from Porterville, Calif., in 1950, then attended Oklahoma University. He went on to serve in the United States Navy during the Korean War.
James began a 30-year career for OG&E as a lineman supervisor up until retirement, then began full-time farming until recent years.
James Sterling retired to Noble with his wife Betty, whom he married June 16, 1956. James loved his family and enjoyed every minute he had to spend with them. He will be remembered for his gardening, hunting and fishing. He was an avid sports fan of OU football and Thunder basketball.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Betty R. (Hansmeyer) Sterling; and sister, Barbara Durham.
James is survived by three children, Terry Sterling and wife Teresa of Norman, James L. Sterling and wife Denise of Noble and Julie Sterling of Noble; grandchildren Johnna and husband Kent Mosley of Norman, Dylan Sterling of Norman, J.L. and wife Jessica of Mobile, Ala., Caleb Sterling and wife Doneisha of Norman, Rose and husband Josh of Norman, Breanna Medrano of Noble and Mason Medrano of Noble; great-grandchildren Kylee, Addison, Ethan, Kaden and Citalee; and sisters Nevada Anerson of Norman and Wanda Hicks and husband Joe of Wanette.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Primrose Funeral Service.
