NORMAN — Don Michael Howard Foster, 72, passed away unexpectedly Monday, June 24, 2013. Michael was born in Harlingen, Texas, on Aug. 1, 1940, to Dorothy Gilbert and Leroy Foster.
By 9, he had begun his vocation, delivering newspapers to the Harlingen Air Force Base, and never quit. After moving to Norman, he worked with the Daily Oklahoman for more than 40 years.
Additionally, he was an integral part of the OU campus scene in the ’60s with his sandwich delivery business, “Big Daddy’s.” Even in recent years, he was still occasionally recognized as ‘Big Daddy’ around Norman.
He was a local hero during the campus dorm fire at Walker Tower in the early ’70s, helping students get out of the smoke-filled building.
On Sept. 21, 1976, he married the love of his life, Belinda Hargrove, and after eight years, became a father to his only child, Rachel Lynne. He loved classical music, old-time radio shows and never missed Paul Harvey.
Michael is survived by his daughter, Rachel Millsap; and six siblings, Susan Stacy, Sallie Decker, Thomas Glick, Richard Glick, Carol “KT” Woodrum and Bruce Glick.
A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at the Lynlee Mae Chapel, 507 E. Main St. in Moore, under the direction of the John M. Ireland Funeral Home and Chapel in Moore.
