William E. ‘Bill’ Padgett

NORMAN — William E. “Bill” Padgett, 80, passed away Sunday, Dec. 30, 2012, in Oklahoma City. He was born March 10, 1932, in Plainview, Ark., to Lewis Oliver Padgett and Mary Retha Stahl Padgett.

Services will be 2 p.m. Friday in Havenbrook Funeral chapel.

He married Donna Sue Lazenby in Plainview, Ark., on Jan. 12, 1952.

Bill served in the Army from 1952 to 1954. He was employed by the United States Postal Service for 35 years. Bill lived in Tulsa and transferred to Norman in 1974. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, McFarlin United Methodist Church, Kiwanis and the Tri City Gun Club. Bill was an University of Oklahoma football and basketball season ticket holder. He was an active volunteer at the Sam Noble Museum and enjoyed working in his vegetable garden, fishing for bass at the lake and hunting deer. He loved carving wood, being a handy man and was a natural engineer. Later in life, he took great joy in cooking. He found comfort and love in the company of his family and beloved Sheltie dogs.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Otis Padgett; and sister, Irbydale Padgett Colbert.

Bill is survived by his wife, Donna Sue Padgett; two daughters, Dr. Jeanette Padgett of Oklahoma City and Suzanne Padgett and husband Scott Pyne of Half Moon Bay, Calif.; two brothers, James Padgett of Houston and Elmer Padgett and wife Lavada of Russellville, Ark.; two grandchildren, Elyse Padgett Sicher of Oklahoma and Erin Padgett Pyne of California; and several nephews and nieces.

Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, with family greeting friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Havenbrook Funeral Home.

Arrangements for Bill and his family have been placed in the care of the Vice family at Havenbrook Funeral Home in Norman.
