J.W. McGuire

NORMAN — J.W. McGuire, 79, of Norman, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2013, surrounded by his loved ones and the excellent staff at the Norman Veterans Center.

J.W. was born on March 18, 1933, to Vahn and Jurhee McGuire in Crescent. He was married to Doris, his high school sweetheart, in 1952, and they had three children: Diane, Glenda, and Steve.

He was a U.S. Army veteran who served in the Korean War.

J.W. was a businessman. Through the years, with his wife, Doris, they had McGuire Furniture Stores in Purcell and Marlow. He loved fishing, traveling, playing pool and dominos.

J.W. was preceded in death by his parents, Vahn and Jurhee McGuire; his brother-in-law, Chris Donley; his granddaughter, Kelly Gilmore; and many aunts and uncles.

Survivors include Doris McGuire of Kingston; daughters Diane Potter and husband Richard of Purcell and Glenda McGuire of Madill; son, Steve McGuire of Kingston; five grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
