Emil R. Stehr

NORMAN — Emil R. Stehr was born on Dec. 6, 1930, to Jacob and Ditda Stehr in Granite. He was raised on a farm in Greer County, along with two sisters and eight brothers, all who are now deceased.

After graduation, he attended business college in Wichita Falls, Texas. Emil was drafted into the U.S. Marine Corps and sent to Korea to serve as a radio operator during the Korean Conflict. Before leaving stateside, he married Eva Joy Tipton, of Hobart, in February 1952. He was honorably discharged from the military after serving in Korea.

Emil and Eva had two children, Greg and Jonell. Emil became involved in the iron working business and spent 45 years putting up steel and metal buildings primarily in Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Arkansas and Missouri. As longtime residents of Norman, Eva and Emil were faithful OU football season ticket holders. Emil spent his retirement years enjoying his children and grandchildren.

Emil passed away at home Monday, July 29, 2013. He will be missed by his children and grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews, as well as other family and friends.

He was preceded in death by Eva, his wife of 55 years, as well as his parents and siblings.

His survivors include his son, Greg Stehr and wife Rhonda of Tyler, Texas; his daughter, Jonell Pearson and husband Randy of Edmond; his grandchildren Erin Kaiser and husband Cameron, Whitney Pearson, Kevin Stehr and Rachel Stehr; and great-grandson, Canon Kaiser.
