Rev. Donald Scott Waters

NORMAN — Rev. Donald Scott Waters, 85, was born July 12, 1927, in Cherokee to Daniel Scott and Ethel Winifred (Wheeler) Waters and departed this earth Friday, Nov. 30, 2012, in Norman.

His celebration of life will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at McFarlin Memorial United Methodist Church.

He served in the United States Navy from 1945 to 1946. Don lived in Kingfisher and Enid before marrying the love of his life, Barbara J. Troup, on Aug. 5, 1949, in Enid. He received a degree in aeronautical engineering from Oklahoma A&M in 1950. Don and Barbara moved to Irving, Texas, where he worked for Chance Vought. A few years later, he felt the call to ministry and entered Perkins School of Theology.

While in school, he pastored the Princeton and Blue Ridge (Texas) Methodist churches. Following graduation, he pastored Oklahoma United Methodist churches in Lamont, Newkirk, Drumright, Trinity in Tulsa, St. Johns in Oklahoma City, and Pauls Valley. He was an elder in the Oklahoma Conference of the United Methodist Church. Don retired in 1990 and they moved to Norman.

His hobbies included model airplanes, especially World War I vintage, and collecting books throughout the year for his family’s Christmas presents. Don was an avid fan of all things OSU. Watching and feeding the birds in his backyard gave him great joy. He was active with the Norman Friends of the Library and loved fishing.
