Dorothy ‘Marie’ Rollins Berglan

NORMAN — Dorothy “Marie” Rollins Berglan, 94, of Norman died Monday, Dec.10, 2012, in Norman.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 14, at CrossPointe Church in Norman with the Rev. Joe Grizzle officiating. Burial will be in I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Norman under the direction of Primrose Funeral Service. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 13 at the Primrose Chapel.

Marie was born Oct. 2, 1918, at home on the family farm northeast of Norman, near Franklin. She was the first child of Luther Clarence Rollins and Anna Pearl Wright Rollins. Her grandparents, Maj. Temple Wright and Emma Eudora Brooks Wright made the land run on April 22, 1889, and homesteaded a choice farm just west of Franklin, northeast of Norman.

Marie attended rural schools at Pleasant Hill, Robinson, and Blackburn for the first 8 years. To facilitate her attending high school in town she stayed for some time with Orin and Ethel Burkett, who were prominent in Cleveland County schools for many years. During her school years she was active in the Franklin Methodist Church where her father held office.

On Dec. 10, 1938, Marie married Paul W. Berglan, who she had known since first-grade. The Berglan clan had homesteaded three farms only a mile and a half from the Wright farm. Paul and Marie lived in the Norman area all their lives and raised five children.

Marie was an active member of the Freewill Baptist Church, now CrossPointe, in Norman since 1952. Over the years she taught several Sunday School Classes for small children and later the King’s Daughters, a senior ladies class. She regularly attended and enjoyed activities with the “Golden Disciples” seniors group. She was employed for 15 years at Griffin Memorial Hospital, and was a good cook and seamstress.

She was preceded in death by her husband Paul W. Berglan; brothers, Chester Rollins, Kenneth Rollins, John Temple Rollins, Richard Carl Rollins; and by sisters, Edna Rollins, Alma Davis, Jean Wampler and Etta Jane Lack.
