Kenneth Hugh Argo

NORMAN — Kenneth Hugh Argo ascended to Heaven on Thursday, Oct. 17, 2013. Reaching the age of 83, Ken was born on June 2, 1930, to David and Eva (Thomas) Argo in Cushing, where he was raised with his brother, Leon.

Ken married Bernadine Joy (Hixon) Argo on July 5, 1953, and they had two children, David and Mark. Ken earned a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Oklahoma State University and proudly served the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War from 1951 to 1955.

In 1998, Ken retired as a supervisory mechanical engineer, Special Weapons Detachment, at McAlester Army Ammunition Plant. Throughout their life together, the Argos lived in El Paso, Texas, Stillwater and McAlester before moving to Norman in 2008.

Ken was a devoted and loving husband as well as a caring, compassionate and sacrificing father and grandfather. Ken and Joy spent 59 happy years together, attending gospel concerts around the country and spending time with their beloved family. Never too busy for living life or to enjoy a home-cooked meal, Ken enjoyed playing the piano and taking his family to water-ski, camp and swimming at Lake Eufaula.

During his time in McAlester, Ken was often found “piddling” around his “boat barn” tool shed on Chambers Road, where he maintained the family home through his skill in the mechanical arts.

Ken was active in his church throughout his lifetime and served as a deacon at Faith Pointe Baptist Church in Norman. After moving to Norman, he continued his devotion to God and community by serving as the treasurer of Faith Pointe Baptist Church.

Ken loved to laugh and tell jokes, and he proudly cheered for his OSU Cowboys despite living in a “house divided.”

Ken was preceded in death by his loving wife, Joy, and by his parents, David and Eva Argo.

Ken is survived by two sons and their families, David and Brenda Argo of Norman and Mark Argo of Tulsa; three grandsons and their families, Barrett and Terra Argo of Norman, Andy and Kelly Ferguson of Arlington, Va., and Jay and Aubrey Ferguson and two great-grandchildren of Lindsay. Ken is also survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Leon and Fern Argo of St. Louis; and in-laws Anita (Hixon) White of Miami, Okla., Frankie and Wilma Bevins of Dallas, Kenneth and Marge Hixon of Cushing and Jerry and Nancy Hixon of Broken Arrow and their extended families.
