NORMAN — Peggy McMakin, 83, passed away Thursday, Oct. 31, 2013, in Niceville, Fla. She was born April 25, 1930, in Bagota, Texas, to Tipton and Lallie Carlock.
Peggy graduated from Bagota High School and went on to continue her education at Wilson and Jones School of Nursing. Peggy worked as a registered nurse and had many accomplishments during her career. She was Nurse of the Year in Oklahoma and was appointed the Board of Nursing Homes by the Governor of Oklahoma. Peggy was the director of nursing at Central State Hospital in Norman for most of her career and while working she attended OU and graduated, achieving her degree in psychology.
Peggy is survived by her husband of 63 years, John McMakin and her daughter, Dalene.
A private family service took place at Barrancas National Cemetery in Pensacola, Fla. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Breast Cancer Research, c/o American Cancer Society.
