Martha Anne Roe John

NORMAN — Martha Anne Roe John, 82, passed away peacefully at home in Norman after an extended illness Tuesday, June 11, 2013.

Her services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at the Craddock Memorial chapel with Pastor James Ehrlich officiating.

The family will be available for visitation from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Martha was born Oct. 4, 1930, in Plainview, Texas, to Tommie A. Roe and Eunice Harris Roe. She grew up and attended school in Dickson, playing basketball and graduating from Dickson High School in 1948.

Martha was the mother of five children, and nothing was more important than her job as a mother and homemaker. She was a great wife and an amazing mother and grandmother. Her family was her world. She loved her role and was actively involved in all of their lives. She thought grandchildren were meant to be spoiled and cherished her time with all of them.

Martha had a deep belief in her Lord and Savior and taught her children about God and about love and charity.

Her husband, Edmond, was in the Air Force for 28 years, and the family traveled extensively and lived in Texas, Maryland, Kansas, Japan, Germany, Greece and Hawaii and loved and appreciated the scenery, food and culture of all the different states and countries. When she was at Fuchu Air Station, Japan, Martha received an award for outstanding performance as chairman of the American National Red Cross Volunteers.

Martha was a hard worker, known for her compassion, generosity and thoughtfulness. She had a wonderful sense of humor and a real zest for life. She loved to read, shop and watch movies and when she was younger, she played basketball and liked to roller skate. She was blessed by her family and friends and will be missed by all.

She attended Bethel Baptist Church and was a member of the Norman Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star.
