NORMAN — Gladys Schmidt, 76, of Norman, passed away Sunday, June 8, 2014, in Norman. She was born June 8, 1938, to William and Bonnie (Murphee) Huffman in Memphis, Tenn.
Gladys was raised in Memphis and attended Alden Schools. She moved to Carnegie before moving to Norman, where she has resided for the past 40 years.
She worked as a cook for many years at the Little Axe Café until 1993. Gladys then went to work as a cook at The Mule Barn in Arkansas City, Kan., until she retired and moved back to Norman. She loved to crochet and spend time with her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two sons, David Schmidt and Ronald Schmidt; three sisters, Vera, Maria and Mildred; and two brothers, Doug Huffman and James Huffman.
Gladys is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Gidget and Scott Miller of Norman; son, Donald “Shorty” and Heather Schmidt of Little Axe; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sister, Ida Kehl of Wisconsin; brother, William Huffman of Searcy, Ark.; and other extended family and friends.
Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Little Axe Baptist Church, with the Rev. Sunny Stewart officiating. Burial will follow at Tecumseh Cemetery under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home in Tecumseh.
