NORMAN — Hazel Ruth Walton Stewart, formerly of Fort Worth and recently of Norman, entered into her heavenly rest Monday, June 9, 2014, at Midwest City.
Born in Stephenville, Texas, on May 29, 1917, Hazel lived most of her life in Fort Worth and celebrated more than 63 years of marriage with her husband and soul mate, Lamar, before moving to Norman in 2001 to be near family. Lamar preceded her in death in April 2002.
Hazel was the personification a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She extended hospitality to everyone she met, characterized by the sweet comfort of home, the welcoming taste of delicious meals and the wisdom of a mature believer in Christ.
The family wishes to thank the following care-givers for their unselfish, consistent and nurturing service provided to our beloved Hazel. These include Dr. Hansel Ratliff, Dr. Rene Ballard, Dr. Steven Ditto, Rambling Oaks Assisted Living Center, Sienna Extended Care and Rehab, Heartland Hospice and Crossroads Hospice. Each of you represented angels of mercy to our loved one during her hour of need for the past 13 years.
Hazel was a member of First Baptist Church in Norman, while living in this area. Although she could not often attend church, her heart was with God’s people and she continued to be a prayer warrior until the very end. Thanks to many in this FBC Norman family who unselfishly visited, wrote letters of encouragement and offered prayers and special remembrances in behalf of our mother and grandmother.
In addition to her surviving family in Texas, Colorado, Indiana and District of Columbia, Hazel’s current family in Oklahoma includes her son, Jim and his wife Vicki of Norman; grandsons Bryan and his wife Sarah of Oklahoma City and Brad and his wife Sarah of Edmond; as well as granddaughter, Joy Robinson and her husband Matt of Norman; plus great-grandchildren Ann Marie, Samuel, Lynlee, Kate, Noah, Stew and Luke.
