Marilyn Jewel Sawyer Barrett

NORMAN — Marilyn Jewel Sawyer Barrett, 80, of Norman, passed away Wednesday, June 25, 2014. She was born Aug. 27, 1933, in Norman, to Hulett S. Sawyer and Jewel V. Potts Sawyer.

She lived on the family farm until the age of 11. Her family moved to town in 1945. She graduated from Norman High School a year early. She became a telephone operator for Southwestern Bell at the age of 16 and also worked in the S.W. Bell business office.

On July 19, 1958, she married Aden E. “Bud” Barrett Jr. in Las Vegas.

They made their home in Norman. After leaving Southwestern Bell she was a full time homemaker and mother of three children.

She loved renovating and working on her home, which she had moved to the family farm. She was great at figuring out solutions to problems that, at the time, seemed almost impossible to solve.

She loved gardening, nature, living in the country, red birds, roses, traveling with her family and listening to good music. She loved Christmas and passed that on to her children. She enjoyed writing and reading poetry. She also was great at memorizing and reciting poetry and literature.

She was a life long member of the Church of Christ and she lived her faith.

She was preceded in death by her father and mother; sister Dorothy J. Dye; and brother Paul V. Sawyer.

She is survived by her husband of the home, Aden E. “Bud” Barrett Jr.; daughters Lisa Wheeler and husband Danny, Dana Domstead and husband Jon; son Mark Barrett; grandsons Grant Domstead and wife Taylor and Ryan Domstead; granddaughter Megan Wheeler; great-granddaughter Norah Domstead; and many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her beloved cats, Poco and Angel.
