Florence Julia Grissom

NORMAN — Florence Julia Grissom, of Tulsa, passed away Monday, June 30, 2014, at the age of 95. She was born Dec. 24, 1918, to Raymond Wampler and Hattie Gross in Randlett.

Florence met and married her soul mate, Vernon Harold Grissom, in Norman 75 years ago, where they raised four children and remained there until 2009 when they moved to Tulsa to be near their daughter. Together, they were members of the First Christian Church in Norman for all of their married life. Their love for one another and their ability to laugh through good times and bad is a legacy of love they have passed along to their family. Their love for their community is a legacy of generosity they have passed along to everyone they reached.

Florence will be remembered for her artistic talents. Aside from her successful drapery business, Florence’s Draperies, she was an accomplished painter of nature scenes and of delicate china that she fired in her home kiln. Always quick to give a short lesson, she enjoyed sharing her gift with others.

She was preceded in death by husband, Vernon Harold Grissom; daughter, Ramona (Charles) Farmer; and sons Don Grissom and Jerry Grissom.

She is survived by daughter, Judy (Robert) Clark; grandchildren Tom (Shay) Farmer, Tammy (Bill) Georges, Melinda (Chris) Edgerton, Gannon Clark and Leigh (Brad) Lowe; and great-grandchildren Sean Helm, Emily Farmer and Andrew Edgerton.

In lieu of flowers, Florence requested that donations be made to the First Christian Church in Norman or a charity of your choice.

A memorial service celebrating her life will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the First Christian Church, 220 S. Webster Ave., Norman, OK 73069.
