NORMAN — James Todd Gaston, 62, of Norman, passed from this life Thursday, July 3, 2014. He was born Feb. 25, 1952, in Lawton to Lyle R. and Gwyn Gaston.
Todd was raised in Enid, where — at a young age — he learned the art of radio and music under the tutorage of his father at station KGWA, singing and writing jingles for their on-air advertising segments. Later, the family moved to Woodward, where he graduated from Woodward High School with triumphant medals from the debate team and pursued music as his career. He moved to Norman in 1970, working at stations KNOR and WWLS, then performed on the road with such bands as Crossbow, Haskell Starbuck, Ground Speed and various other bands, touring throughout the United States. He settled in Norman and married the love of his life, Paula Kaye Martin, of Norman, on July 15, 1983. Their marriage celebrated 32 years this month.
Todd joined the work force at the University of Oklahoma printing services and mail department in 1999 and, for 15 years, he loved working with the OU staff and students. He also enjoyed his Sooner Saturdays.
Todd was preceded in death by his father, Lyle R. and John A. Gaston.
