NORMAN — James “Jim” R. Valley, 89, of Norman, passed away Saturday, June 28, 2014. He was born May 28, 1925, in Wooden, Iowa, to Ray and Blanche (Hanson) Valley. Jim was one of eight children.
Jim proudly served his country in World War II as a Navy torpedoman second class.
Jim’s professional career included sales and small business ownership in Iowa. His retirement years were spent mostly in Oklahoma with friends and family.
He enjoyed square dancing, fishing and “Riverwind.” He also enjoyed visiting with friends and family, with whom he shared wonderful lifetime experiences and stories.
Jim is survived by one son, Greg Valley and wife Marina of Norman; one stepson, Van Wilson of Austin, Texas; three grandchildren, Alexandria Newton and husband Kenneth, Francesca Valley and James D. Valley; and four siblings, Charlotte Larson, Stanley Valley, Charles Valley and wife Yolanda and JoAnn Longerbone.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Darlene Valley; son, Dennis Valley; and three siblings, Eva Ruth Meyers, Ivan Valley and Hazel Rivers.
A loving remembrance will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Louie’s, in the Brookhaven Village Shopping Mall at 36th and Robinson in Norman. Interment will take place in Iowa in the fall.
