Edna Corinne Wilkerson Riley McDonald

NORMAN — If you knew Edna Corinne Wilkerson Riley McDonald, then you crossed paths with a saint. She passed into glory Friday, July 11 2014, after a short illness, and is dancing with her family and heavenly father.

Services will be 4 p.m. Wednesday in McMahans Chapel of Prayer, with the Rev. Kerry Bowen and the Rev. Bill Kennedy officiating. Angela Brooks Smith, Kimberly Cook Grammer, Pam Jarboe Kennedy and Dr. Christopher Cook will provide the music.

“Cokie” was born Sept. 6, 1927, to Owen “Cleveland County Cotton King” and Ollie Wilkerson in the Clearbrook community east of Norman. She was surrounded by music provided by the FROG bank, comprised of her uncles Fred, Roy, Owen and George. They were joined by her four older siblings, Owen Warden, Roy, Sidney and devoted sister, Mildred Wilkerson Reedy.

Corinne graduated from Noble High School in 1945 and nursing school after World War II. She served at the Cleveland County Health Department for 20 years. She and her husband, Phillip Howard “Slim” Riley (Riley Municipal Park) were the proud parents of Rhonda Lavon Riley Burleson (1948-1973) and grandparents to Michelle, Rebecca and Sharon Burleson Clay Freudenburg and great-grandparents to Alex and Cory Clay.

She was a member of Greenwood Baptist Church and sang in the choir while she was married to Hoy McDonald. They enjoyed vegetable and flower gardening, fishing, camping, cooking and large family gatherings with stepdaughter, LaQuita, and husband Paul Grose and extended family members.

After Hoy’s passing, Cokie returned to Norman to live near her sister, Mildred. They shared countless crossword puzzle challenges and Norman Senior Citizen Center visits for marathon card games. She joined Enterprise Baptist Church, where she shared her big heart, quick wit and sweet smile.

Other survivors include her sister, Mildred and brother-in-law Cloyce Reedy; niece, Wanda Reedy Cook (humble assistant); great-niece, Kimberly Grammer and husband Mike; great-nephew, Dr. Christopher and wife Julie Cook; and great-nieces and nephews Chloe, Claire, Christian, Rebecca Grammer, Evangelyn and Camille Cook; and many other beloved relatives.
