Amy Sue Berry

NORMAN — Amy Sue Berry passed away Sunday, July 13, 2014, at Norman Regional Hospital and took her place in heaven. She was born March 15, 1937, in Nyaka to Jessie and Oma Smith.

The family moved to Weleetka in 1942. Amy met Richard Berry on a blind date in August 1954 and, following her graduation from Weleetka High School in May 1955, they married on June 24, 1955. They lived in Oklahoma City and Bethany before moving to Norman in 1967, where they have lived since.

Amy was a homemaker while raising her children and worked part-time as a school cafeteria cashier. She later worked at Dillard’s and retired after 15 years.

She attended church all her life and had been a member of Alameda Church of Christ since 1979. Throughout her life, she enjoyed volunteering in the church, working in the flower garden and doing various crafts such as cross-stitching, scrapbooking and making cards for friends and family. Her greatest joy in life was raising her children and then spoiling her grandchildren.

Her parents, five sisters and two brothers preceded Amy in death.

She is survived by her husband, Richard; children Steve and wife Liz of Phoenix, Stan and wife Cheryl of Norman and Jennifer Cook and husband Dale of Norman; grandchildren Stephanie Berry of Miami, Fla., Matthew and Lauren Berry of Phoenix, Kimberly and Allison Berry of Norman, Ben and wife Abby, Brandon and Andrew Cook of Norman; her brother, Joe Smith of Bryan, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Alameda Church of Christ, 801 E. Alameda St. in Norman. Interment will follow in the Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery in Norman.

In lieu of flowers, the family has suggested that donations be made in Amy’s memory to the Streams of Water Ministry at Alameda Church of Christ, 801 Alameda St., Norman, OK 73071.
