NORMAN — At 8:22 p.m. Sunday, July 14, 2013, a very unique soul started its final journey to be with her Lord and Savior.

She is joining her mother, Leva Lee Dixon, father, Chester Dixon and her son, Damon Walker, in paradise. Born on Sept. 15th, 1952, she was raised and educated in Checotah. Although she only had a two year college education, she parlayed her people, administrative and organizational skills, along with a ‘never give up’ attitude to become assistant to the now superintendent of Moore schools.

She became gravely ill in 2011 and when working was no longer an option, her health required she retire.

It meant the terrible loss of working with the Moore schools people that she loved and admired for over 20 years. They were to her, her family.

Shortly thereafter she lost her mom at age 92. In December of 2011, her only son was killed in a tragic traffic accident at age 37.

June 1, 2013, she went to the Intensive Care Unit and despite the heroic efforts of the magnificent nurses, doctors and staff at Norman Regional Hospital, they were unable to save her. Not that she went down without a fight, she battled and she fought right to the bitter end.

She was surrounded by her immediate family and will be missed by every one who knew her including those upon which she had favored with a grin or the occasional scolding. But even when she scolded, you could not dislike her. She was a friend to everyone, always ready to help out and offer counsel when needed.

When she passed away, we said a prayer that the Lord receive her into His house, and I added, “but cut her some slack Lord, she can be a little feisty.” Feisty she was to the last, and that was part of what made her so special to all who knew her.
