NORMAN — Delouis Joseph Fontenot, of Norman, passed away peacefully and surrounded by family on July 19, 2013 at the age of 79. He was born Aug. 21, 1933, in Washington, La., to Jacques and Marie Fontenot.
One of 10 children, Delouis worked hard for everything he got, including a college degree. He saw much of the world while proudly serving his country in the Army and during his 32 years of service as a chemical engineer for Phillips Petroleum. Delouis married the love of his life, Delia, in 1966 and only through death did they part, 47 years later. He proved to be a loving father and great provider for his four children, making sure they didn’t suffer any of the financial hardships he, himself, had experienced.
He is survived by his wife, Delia Fontenot; three sons, Dwayne Fontenot of Houston, Derek Fontenot and wife, Melissa of Moore, and Damon Fontenot of Edmond; and his only daughter, Daphne Thompson & husband, Richard of Norman; four grandchildren, Nathan Thompson, Brian Thompson, Josephine Fontenot and Ethaniel Fontenot; brother, Jenard Fontenot and sister, Agnes Joubert, both of Louisiana.
A Rosary will be 7 p.m. Tuesday, and a Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Wednesday — both at St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church in Norman. Services are under the direction of the John M. Ireland Funeral Home, Moore.
