NORMAN — Norman resident, Kathryn Jeanette “Jan” Monk, 74, stepped into heaven Tuesday, April 15, 2014. She was born July 29, 1939, in Ada, to Pat and Esther Harington.
Jan was raised by her mother and grandmother in Stonewall until moving to Midwest City. She graduated from Midwest City High School, class of 1957. Jan joined the Air Force shortly thereafter. While serving in the Air Force, she met and married Don Hill. They were blessed with two daughters.
Jan returned to Midwest City where she worked for Tinker Air Force Base. A co-worker introduced Jan to her brother, John Monk. They married July 15, 1968. John and Jan adored each other.
Jan loved her church family very much and all of her Tuesday night angels. She loved to crochet, play cards, Farkle and bingo. She enjoyed collecting shoes.
Jan graduated from Rose State and Oklahoma State University before going to work for the Internal Revenue Service, which she retired from August 1995.
She will be dearly missed by longtime friends, Joyce Horn, Carolyn Smith and Norma Woodard. A very special thank you to Frank and Norma Woodard for always being there for Jan and her family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John, who was the love of her life; her parents, Pat Harington and Esther and Charles Whitwell; great-granddaughter Daisy Monk; son Terry Hill; and sister-in-law Cora Ryan.
She is survived by her daughters, Donna Kay Thornhill and husband Rick and Susan Monk; sons Tommy Monk and Crystal Guess and David Hill; granddaughters Lynnae Monk, Kristy Birkes and husband Jeremy and Cara Wolf and husband Scott; great-grandsons J.T. Monk and Caleb Wolf; great-granddaughter and “BFF,” Brianna Monk; great-granddaughter Sydney Wolf; two brothers, Mike and Billy Whitwell; one sister, Vicki Gordy; and a host of other loving family members and friends.
