NORMAN — Patte Wallace, 85, of Norman, passed away April 16, 2014. She was born Sept. 12, 1928, to Will and Allye Abbott in Sherman, Texas. Patte grew up in Durant.
She enjoyed animals, especially cats, dogs and watching birds and reading. Patte also enjoyed OU sports, especially football and basketball. Though she didn’t get to travel as much as she would have liked to, she did enjoy traveling.
She retired from the Norman Public Library after 40 years of service. Prior to the library, she worked as a newspaper reporter in Midland, Texas, and Durant.
Patte had a zest for life and enjoyed spending time with family and friends. She was a cancer survivor.
Patte is survived by her son, Patrick Wallace of Oklahoma City; two grandsons, Jared Bradshaw and wife JoBeth of Misawa, Japan, and James Brown; and one great-grandson, Arthur Fagan Brown.
She was preceded in death by her parents; long time companion Harry Gibbs; two children, Alison Ray and Scott Wallace; and one sister, Billye Abbott.
The family would like to thank her private caregivers, the staff of Noble Health Care Center and Heavenly Hospice.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at the chapel of John M. Ireland Funeral Home in Moore. Interment to be at Highland Cemetery in Durant.
